Position: Breastfeeding Educator - PRN
Organization: Sibley Memorial Hospital

Schedule: Days
This position is responsible for providing breastfeeding education services to expectant and breastfeeding families both in the immediate hospital and outpatient setting under the supervision of the Lactation manager to insure consistent, accurate, quality knowledge based breastfeeding information.
REQUIREMENTS: a graduate from a course that covers basic breastfeeding information including but not limited to:
- basic latch-on skills
- patient teaching to avoid common breastfeeding problems
- how to triage breastfeeding problems

JOB OPENING:
Position: Childbirth Educator - PRN
Organization: Sibley Memorial Hospital
Location: Washington, DC
Schedule: Days/Evenings & Rotating Weekends
As an RN/Childbirth Educator, your job will be to provide education for families as they prepare for birth and family life. Responsibilities will include preparing and implementing content, instruction and materials, as well as evaluating teaching and learning strategies in relation to the labor process.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A Bachelor of Science degree
- RN licensure in the District of Columbia (preferred)
- Three years of experience in maternity nursing and/or childbirth education (preferred)
- Knowledge and experience in using equipment and teaching tools and methodologies related to childbearing, breastfeeding and normal newborn care
- Attendance at a Childbirth Education training seminar of at least 18 hours in duration
- Preferably, knowledge and skill in applying the principles of adult education

Position: Lactation Consultant - PRN

Location: Washington, DC
This position requires the incumbent to be an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. The incumbent is responsible for providing lactation management services to expectant and breastfeeding families both in the immediate hospital and outpatient setting. The incumbent will provide educational in-services for staff members and instruction for pregnant and new families to insure consistent, accurate, quality knowledge based breastfeeding information.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered Nurse preferred; Certified by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants, required.
- Minimum of three years of experience in counseling breastfeeding mothers, required.
- DC License
- ONS Certification

Silver Spring milks controversy over nursing mother to push breastfeeding awareness

Downtown Silver Spring's property manager has been nursing relations with the community back to health after a security guard told a woman she could not breastfeed by the outdoor fountain on Ellsworth Drive this month. Peterson Cos, the property manager for Downtown Silver Spring, has brought in the La Leche League of Silver Spring to educate the public and their staff about breastfeeding, which is legal to do in public under Maryland law and in every state in the U.S. Two weeks ago, a woman who was breastfeeding by the fountain downtown was told by a security guard that she could not breastfeed there...
